ABOUT THIS EVENT

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum is proud to present the John L. Ford, Sr. African American Heritage Celebration: Fighting for Freedom: Blacks in the Military from World War II to 2020 on Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  The panel discussion, in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, will focus on the battle against fascism abroad and for equal rights at home for African Americans. Topics will include The Pittsburgh Courier’s 1942 Double V Campaign as well as conditions for African Americans in today's military. The discussion will be moderated by Lynne Hayes Freeland, talk show host KDKA-Radio and TV.

In honor of the late John L. Ford Sr., retired Soldiers & Sailors Historian and founder of the Soldiers & Sailors African American Heritage Celebration, we are proud to name this annual observance in his honor.

Admission is free, but space is limited. Reservations are recommended. Light refreshments will be available.
